Le Moyne College
Syracuse, New York
 Lemoyne Jesuit College

College Description
Le Moyne College is a four-year Jesuit college of approximately 1,900 undergraduate students that uniquely balances a comprehensive liberal arts education with preparation for specific career paths or graduate study. Founded by the Society of Jesus in 1946, Le Moyne is the second-youngest of the twenty-eight Jesuit colleges and universities in the United States.

Le Moyne's 150-acre tree-lined campus is located in a residential setting 10 minutes from Syracuse, the heart of New York State, whose metropolitan population is about 240,000. Syracuse is convenient to most major cities throughout the Northeast, New England, and Canada, and has a wide array of shopping centers and restaurants, many near Le Moyne. Syracuse offers year-round entertainment in the form of rock concerts at the Carrier Dome and Landmark Theatre; professional baseball, hockey, and lacrosse; Bristol Omnitheatre, one of only nineteen omnitheaters in the country; the Syracuse Symphony; Syracuse Stage; Everson Museum of Art; and the completely transformed Armory Square area downtown, offering one-of-a-kind eateries, pubs, and coffee houses in addition to a wide variety of social and cultural events. All are easily accessible via the excellent public transportation service, which schedules regular stops at Le Moyne.

Academic Life
Le Moyne offers academic programs in Accounting, Biology, Business, Chemistry, Economics, Education, English, Foreign Language: French and Spanish, History, Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management, International Studies, Mathematics, Multiple Science, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Religious Studies, Sociology.

Students may minor in communications, drama, fine arts, management information systems, urban studies, or women's studies as well as in any of the major fields of study offered.

In addition, Le Moyne offers the following special programs: affiliated 3-4 programs in dentistry, optometry, and podiatry; early assurance dental and medical programs; fine arts, integral honors, pre-engineering, pre-environmental science and forestry; pre-health related professions; pre-law; pre-medicine, pre-physician assistant; and study abroad. Le Moyne students may enroll in Army and Air Force ROTC programs at Syracuse University.

While each major department has its own sequence requirements for the minimum 120 credit hours needed for the Le Moyne degree, the College is convinced that there is a fundamental intellectual discipline that should characterize the graduate of a superior liberal arts college. Le moyne's core curriculum provides this foundation by including studies of English language and literature, philosophy, history, religious studies, science, mathematics, and social sciences.

Campus Life
The campus environment is one of a closely knit community. Le Moyne's personal approach to education is reflected in the quality of contact between students and faculty members. A wide range of student-directed activities, athletics, clubs, and service organizations complement the academic experience. The College encourages student leadership in all activities. Positions of leadership are open to students in all class years. Students are represented by a Student Senate and have formal representation through the senate on most College-wide committees involved in decision making and policy formation.

Approximately 80 percent of students live in residence halls and townhouses on campus. The Residence Hall Councils and the Le Moyne Student Programming Board organize many campus activities, including concerts, dances, a weekly film series, student talent programs, and special lectures as well as off-campus trips and skiing excursions.Le Moyne's popular theater program puts on two exciting productions a year and a spectacular, free-standing Performing Arts Center is planned to open by the 1999 school year, hosting theater, music, and dance performances.

Facilities and Resources
Le Moyne students benefit from an ongoing commitment to technological excellence. The Computer Center houses a VAX 3100 computer system. Our award winning library has over 185,000 volumes and seating for 700 and is connected to the World Wide Web.

With a newly installed fiber-optic network, students can access the campus network, the Library's system, and the Internet from several computer labs around campus or from their rooms if they have computers of their own. All classrooms are being converted to "smart" classrooms, with multimedia capabilities that are transforming the learning process.

The Coyne Science Center has over 60 labs, classrooms, prep rooms and faculty/office suites, with two electron microscopes and a nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer.

The Recreation Center is designed primarily for intramural, personal fitness and recreational activities. The building houses a fitness room with Nautilus and Universal equipment, an Olympic-size indoor pool built for competition, a whirlpool, an elevated jogging track, racquet ball courts, and a large multipurpose gymnasium that can be divided into three courts for tennis, volleyball, basketball and other activities.

The expanded 525-seat Dining Center has plush seating and a variety of foods and special meals in a warm, inviting atmosphere. A new Student Activity Center is currently under construction and will include a student snack bar and coffeehouse.

Our residence halls range from the traditional to spacious townhouses, featuring three floors of living with three two-person bedrooms, a common area, kitchen, dining cove, and three bathrooms.

Athletics/Sports
Le Moyne sponsors 16 NCAA varsity teams. Le Moyne's varsity athletic program allows new students to make an immediate impact on a team--an opportunity that is not available at many larger institutions. Le Moyne sponsors Division I (MACC) baseball and women's lacrosse as well as Division II (Northeast 10) varsity teams in men's/women's basketball, cross-country, lacrosse, soccer, swimming, tennis; men's golf; and women's softball and volleyball.

The College participates in four sports on the club level: men's ice hockey, rugby, and volleyball, in addition to cheerleading, with both men and women on the squad.

The College conducts an extensive intramural program with sports and competitors that vary each year. The program usually includes: basketball (men's and women's leagues); flag football (men); indoor soccer (men's, women's and coed leagues); walleyball (coed); racquetball tournaments (coed, men's and women's divisions); volleyball (coed); softball (men's and women's leagues); and inner tube water polo (coed).

Athletic facilities include lacrosse, soccer, and baseball fields; tennis, basketball, and racquetball courts; exercise rooms; a Nautilus training center; and two gymnasiums.

Financial Aid
Financial aid is offered to 95 percent of Le Moyne's students through scholarships, grants, loans, and work-study assignments. Le Moyne offers a generous program of merit-based academic and athletic scholarships as well as financial aid based on a student's need and academic promise. Federal funds are available through the Federal Pell Grant, Federal Work-Study, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant, and Federal Perkins Loan programs.

A student's eligibility for need-based financial aid is determined from both the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the Le Moyne Financial Aid Application Form. It is recommended that these forms be mailed by February 1.

Admission Requirements
Le Moyne seeks qualified students who are well-prepared for serious academic study. Secondary school preparation must have included at least 17 college-preparatory high school units, 4 of which must be in English, 3-4 in social studies, 3-4 in mathematics, 3 in foreign language, and 3-4 in science. It is also recommended that prospective science and mathematics majors complete 4 units of mathematics and science. The SAT I or ACT is required and should be taken by December or January of the senior year in high school. Interviews are strongly recommended, as the admission process is a personal one. As bases for selection, academic achievement and secondary school recommendations are of primary importance; SAT I or ACT scores are important as they relate to the record of achievement and to recommendations. Out-of-state students are encouraged to apply.

The Admission Committee reviews applications and mails decisions on a rolling admission cycle beginning January 1. The priority deadline for applications is March 1; all students who wish to be considered for academic non-need scholarships should have a completed application on file in the Office of Admission before this date.

Students who wish to be considered under the early decision program must have a completed application submitted by December 1. Early decision applicants will be notified by December 15. Transfer students are encouraged to apply before May 1 for fall semester and December 1 for the spring semester. A fun-filled two-day orientation program takes place mid-summer.
